Check out our Summer Focus!

As summer settles in across Ontario, many of us are looking forward to the simple joys of the season — popsicles on hot afternoons, family picnics, days at the beach and, of course, building sandcastles.

Summer is also a wonderful time to reconnect with the natural world around us. Canada is home to the longest coastline in the world and nearly one-quarter of the world’s fresh water, making environmental stewardship a shared responsibility for all of us.

In our Summer 2026 edition of Family Day FOCUS, we explore what families can do to nurture, support and protect our planet. From reducing plastic waste to helping wildlife thrive and preserving the parks, forests and waterways that make our communities so special, every action — large or small — makes a difference.

Creating a healthier future for our children will require collaboration between individuals, organizations, businesses and governments alike. Encouragingly, Canadians of all ages are already leading the way through creative, practical and inspiring environmental initiatives.

One such individual is Kirsty Lewis, a Bachelor of Science student at the University of Waterloo and the daughter of Family Day Program Manager Nicole Lewis. We recently had the opportunity to speak with Kirsty about her passion for protecting the environment and the practical steps families can take to make a positive impact.

We invite you to explore these ideas and more in the Summer 2026 edition of Family Day FOCUS, available to view and download HERE.

From all of us at Family Day, we wish you and your family a happy, healthy, fun and safe summer. We hope you take time to enjoy all the moments that make this season so special.
